One helluva evening.........

The day dawned and we were looking forward to the grand evening ahead. Met early and wondering what to wear(typical girls!!). We had to look aptly dressed for the occasion as this was no ordinary party, it spelt grandeur and royalty from the very word go, that was enough pressure on us to make sure we looked out best and more importantly not make a fool of ourself!! So, after all the hunting around for that perfect outfit, and most often bumping into what we thought would serve better as costume party stores(!), we decided to go the traditional way, and so we arrived at the Palace draped in 6yards of lovely silk looking our best!! As we entered and saw the crowds gather we were so glad we dressed the way we did, since that was the theme running this evening. We settled into our seats, and then began an hour of pure torture. Why (?) if you care to ask... it was a fashionista's worst dressed nightmare unfolding, and for the next 56min as the host put it(!) silk, silk and more silk was thrown into every single piece made. We all have this notion of how we would love to have those few exclusive designer pieces, but after having seen this one, ufffffff... we decided we could bring out something better than this, given the kind of access designers have to all things best.
So, let me give a few fashion bloopers of the evening...so get your imagination running !!
1. A silk bikini tube with ruffles flapping as the model walked !!
2. Bikini to start off with, and the designer thinks oops too much skin show, so let me just cover it with bits of sheer cloth!!
3. Harem pants which are now a rage made in plain silks- what is deisgner bout that?
4. More silk thrown at our face, this time in the form of frills from start to finish.. just got me back to my kinder garden- fancy dress days!!
5. Now it was the Lehega's which had motifs which were sooooooo blaaaaaahhhh to say the least, guess B'lore's Chikapet would surely do better than them.
6. Then came the Sari's with the skimpy bikini blouses! If that was not enough the models posing.. simply hillarious.. you have to be there to know what im talking about...except for the front runner top model, rest were i must say very very new to the business.... !!
7. Hosla ka Ghosla i would like to call it, the hair was a nest sitting on each ones head and guess the designer was going with the go green campaign, since they had leaves and flowers growing on them.
8. And how could i not mention our very own "Iron lady" for the night, who each time had us in splits when she wud run through this routine of "pause-pose-hands on the hip-suck in tummy" religiously!!

So, all in all was an entertainer for us, and not that i have anything against designers, but really i wondered who would want to be draped in such ill fitting silk!! Sorry Mr Designer...... guess you should just stick to being a King!!

Doing something i love......

8months back i gave up on the IT industry, bored with the monotony and stress , which it comes packaged with (at least for me!!) ,i got an opportunity to breakaway and be associated with something i enjoy personally - Travel. So, the day came i went for my rather casual interview at a coffee shop, not knowing what to expect. I was asked about my interests and what drew me to this job and i expressed my interest for travel and what i knew about it from what i watched and heard and travelled a bit myself. So, after an hour of talks, n voila i was made the offer!! So, me the happy soul thinking to myself that i finally got a job i know I’m gonna enjoy, got home and that evening shared my joy with Daddy dearest. All was well until i said it's for a travel company!! Expressions of "are you out of your mind" was all over his face, with a frown he asked so what is job going to be like, i started rattling away unperturbed by his expressions about how i would be writing creative content about holiday destinations, talking to corporates about our trip planning product, and i went on for a good ten minutes!! All the while dad gave me a blank look, once I was done he asks "why do you want to change your line, all you have studied for 4years will go for a waste?" and he started giving me advice (gyan!) as to how an IT job would see growth and sustenance and pay me better and compared it with the volatility of the travel industry specially after the dull period its gone through for a while now. I listened to all he had to say and said "i think its time i do something i really enjoy, it’s not the money or the big MNC status, its to do with something i really love" and to this he did not have much to say. Though even till date whenever he looks into the weekly Times Ascent and finds Quality Analyst requirement he still tells me trying his bit of luck to see if i can still change my mind, but me my foot is firmly stuck in this industry. I mean its been 8months into this industry and i have done tasks like writing an SRS, designing screens, giving creative content, writing blogs, exploring newer destinations and much more. So, i really feel proud of the decision i took, at least i don’t dread going to work, instead i think of every new task as a challenge. So, i followed my heart and i know that I’m got into this to stay. At the end of it all i only wish i get to do more of personal travel after all the planning and exploring i do as part of my job for others!!

Caught in the number game.......

I watched 3 Idiots finally after 2 failed attempts, first time with no luck in getting tickets and 2nd time round got the tickets but couldn't make it. It was my first movie in a long time, and i was really keen on watching this one. There is always something fresh about Amir Khan and his movies, always a message to spread. And this one too says a lot. In all its humor, it touches upon how 3friends each from different backgrounds, pressures and the way each perceive the all important degree come together!! And the end just sums it all up and says after all you may be the king of the number game, but when it comes to putting knowledge to practice its a whole different ball game!! This movie got my thoughts rolling about our education system, which has students thrown into this vicious circle of numbers. The number game starts from friends in class, teachers making comparisons, parents comparing their friend’s child's marks and they even go as far as talent!! I mean, each student has his/her own strengths and talents which another may not posses. Whilst watching this movie, it got me thinking of a close cousin who is very dear to me, and that’s the way my uncle treats her. For both parents its just the child’s marks which matter, it’s hard to believe that they feel overall personality development is not required!! And to mention, she is the brightest kid I’ve seen, in academics and otherwise too and her talents are suppressed by parents who come from well educated and well rounded backgrounds which is surprising...

I really hope our generation is able to better perceive the education system as a medium of learning and excelling in what and where each ones interest lies, rather than 99.91 % .... 99.92%.................
